Lower Mainland ringette league perfect on season at 9-0-0

LMRL (Lower Mainland Ringette League) Thunder captain Jennifer Wakefield had four goals and two assists in her team’s 7-4 victory over the Edmonton WAM! on Dec. 8 at the George Preston Recreation Centre.

The B.C. Thunder continue to make noise in the National Ringette League.

The ringette team, the defending 2012 league champions, are off to a 9-0-0 start to lead the Western Conference.

The Thunder, who play their home games at rinks across the Lower Mainland, defeated the Edmonton WAM! 10-6, 7-4 and 5-4 on the weekend of Dec. 8-9.

The team boasts the Western Conference’s top three scorers in Salla Kyhala, Jennifer Wakefield and Tiina Mononen.

Kyhala and Mononen are both from Finland, while Wakefield, the team captain, is a Langley resident and elementary school teacher.

The team also features another Langley resident in defender Kacy Hannesson.

Wakefield is also involved in the sport as a coach and next week (Dec. 28 to Jan. 3) will lead Team Canada West at the U19 world ringette championships in London, Ont.
