The Fraser Valley Thunderbirds are flying high with just one loss in their past eight games.

The BC Major Midget Hockey League team picked up three out of four points over the weekend in a home-and-home series against the visiting Greater Vancouver Canadians.

The Thunderbirds improved to 9-5-3-1 and they sit in sixth place, one point behind the Canadians although Fraser Valley does have a pair of games in hand.

The first game was played Saturday at the Richmond Oval with the Thunderbirds prevailing 4-1.

Brodi Stuart opened the scoring for Fraser Valley in the first period and after the Canadians tied it seven seconds later, Baxter Anderson put the T-Birds ahead for good with a goal just 27 seconds later.

Carter Graham and Jonathan Rees added goals in the second period while Boston Bilous allowed just the one goal.

The rematch was played Sunday at the Abbotsford Recreation Centre with Fraser Valley erasing 2-0 and 3-2 leads to earn the single point.

Jake Mulder, Justin Plett and Liam Visram had the T-Birds goals while Bilous was again in goal.

Bilous picked up an assist on Visram’s tying goal, which came with 10 minutes to play in the third period.

The T-Birds are in action twice this weekend against the Vancouver Northwest Giants. The teams play Saturday at the ARC at 4 p.m. and Sunday at the Langley Events Centre at 3 p.m.
