The Trinity Western Spartans swept a weekend Prairie road trip as they pushed their unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1).
The men's soccer squad (3-1-1) posted a pair of 1-0 victories, Saturday in Edmonton over the Alberta Golden Bears, and Sunday in Saskatoon over the Saskatchewan Huskies.
Goaltender Andrew Fink — who was named Canada West men's player of the week on Tuesday and CIS men's player of the week on Wednesday — made a combined nine saves in beating the Golden Bears and the seventh-ranked Huskies.
The fourth-year goalkeeper leads the conference in goals against average (0.60) and shutouts (two) and is third in save percentage (.842). He has played in all 450 minutes for the Spartans, while giving up only three goals in the five matches.
Garrett Peters scored the game winner against Saskatchewan in the 37th minute, taking a pass from Brayden Volkenant and slotting it past Saskatchewan keeper Mark Diakiw.
Fink made seven saves in the victory.
"We had a good performance by our entire back line, James Farenhorst and Jordan Whitehead were stellar," said Trinity Western coach Pat Rohla.
"Our back line and midfield was (in) lockdown road-warrior mentality and Jarvis Ambaka has come along and shown that he can play at this level.
In the match against the Golden Bears, Forenhorst scored the only goal in the 72nd minute, after a set up from Ambaka and Ioannis Tsoulouhas.
The Spartans were up a man after Alberta's Marcus Johnstone was sent off for his second yellow.
"Overall it is a great win," Rohla said. "We carried a fair bit of the play in the second half (and) we weathered the storm and had full value for the win today."
The coach also credited the play of back line defenders Mitchell Rohla and Shawn Parkes.
The Spartans are at home for a pair of games this weekend, Friday against the Calgary Dinos and Saturday versus the Lethbridge Pronghorns. Both matches are at 7 p.m. at Rogers Park on the TWU campus.
