The Trinity Western Spartans continue to charge ahead towards another post-season berth.
The women’s soccer team — ranked fifth in the country — improved to 7-0-2 after defeating the Alberta Pandas 2-0 on Friday and the UNBC Timberwolves 4-0 on Saturday. Both games were at TWU’s Chase Office Field.
Isabella Di Trocchio, Seina Kashima and Amy Gartke had first-half goals in the latter game with Gartke adding another goal in the second half.
Rachel Hutchinson set up a pair of goals and now has six assists in her last four matches.
Christina Oliverio made her first start of the season in goal, picking up the clean sheet.
"Pleased that we had a good jump to start the match and got a couple of early goals. We moved the ball really well in the first half and won the ball up the park and it was a great start for us," said TWU head coach Graham Roxburgh.
His only disappointment was the team’s lack of finish as they had 25 shots, including 14 on goal.
By comparison, the Timberwolves did not attempt a single shot.
The Alberta game was a matchup of two of the top teams in the country as the Pandas came in ranked No. 8 and the loss was their first of the season.
Di Trocchio opened the scoring in first half stoppage time and Stephanie Chin doubled the led in the 69th minute.
Ally Williamson stopped both Alberta shots for her sixth clean sheet.
The Spartans face the UFV Cascades on Friday night at Chase Office Field in a first-place showdown as the Cascades enter the game three points back of TWU for top spot in the Pacific Division.
