After dominating for much of regulation and the overtime periods, Langley United needed penalty kicks against the Ladner Celtics.
But Langley would not be denied, connecting on all five of their penalty kick attempts to win 5-4 and claim the U13 B.C. Coastal Cup championship trophy.
The game was played last week in Richmond.
The teams traded goals in the first half, with Noah Owen striking first for Langley before Ladner tied the score off a free kick.
But the Langley boys were unlucky not to be leading as they spent little time in the defensive end during the second half, pressing the Celtic defence, but lacking the finish for the go-ahead goal.
With its Coastal Cup victory, Langley United has qualified for the provincial championships in July.
They will face a team from the Interior in a one-game championship in Richmond.
LUYSA’s U13 team will be broken up for the 2011 season as nearly 2/3 of the team have been selected to the newly formed British Columbia Premier League (BCPL) .This is a testament to the vision of the LUYSA Board and Technical Director Mr. Mark Parker, the Assocition has worked hard of youth development over the past 4 years and the effects are being realized by many of the Players thru out the age groups.
The U13 team's head coach Scott Howey has also been selected to the BCPL league as head coach, with a calm and steady approach he has shown by example how to handle the stress of the big game, a true example to the young athletes of self control and focus. Having semi pro and pro experience these experiences have given Scott a unique ability to communicate with these kids, a skill not often seen from a young man of just 21.
