Walnut Grove Gators crush competition to take title

The Walnut Grove Gators crushed the competition to take the title at the 2012 Gators Candy Cane Classic.

The Gators senior boys basketball team defeated the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers 101-74 in Saturday’s championship final at Walnut Grove.

Jadon Cohee earned player of the game honours.

The Gators, led by player of the game David Wolde-Mariam, cruised through the semifinals 104-52 over the Centennial Centaurs.

Walnut Grove also defeated the St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights 78-44 in the tournament opener.

The Gators, ranked fourth in the provincial AAA polls, are scheduled to open the regular season on Dec. 19 against Westview.
