Xtreme tops district, books ticket to provincials

The Langley Xtreme 2003B softball team had a golden weekend at the District 8 championships at Noel Booth Park.

Saturday saw two decisive wins over the Valley Venom 2003B, and then a victory Langley Xtreme 2004B which was enough to earn the local girls a place in the final.

With temperatures soaring, the Xtreme again faced the Valley Venom ‘03 in the district championship game Sunday afternoon.

In arguably one of their most exciting games of the year, the Xtreme trailed 4-0 after two innings before tying the score the fourth and then pulling ahead by seven in the final inning to secure first place.

The Xtreme rallied with solid hitting, key defensive plays, and great pitching.

The Xtreme 03 coaching staff was particularly proud of the way the girls buckled down and battled hard to the end.

The Xtreme’s winning performance was of particular significance as it qualified them for the provincials to be held in Richmond in mid-July.

The annual event will see teams from all over B.C. battle it out to claim the prestigious crown.

North Langley Diamond Sports Softball Association and Langley Fastpitch Association will be well represented at the B.C. provincial Championships, taking five of a possible eight spots from District 8.

Joining the Xtreme 03 at the provincials are the Rebels 97, Xtreme 99, Xtreme 01, and Xtreme 01/02.
