Be true to yourself, know your self-worth and know that you can do anything you set your mind to.

That was the message from Olympic rugby player Kayla Moleschi.

And she was in Aldergrove and Langley on Monday (June 6) speaking at a handful of schools. She concluded her day with a talk to Langley high school rugby players ahead of their awards banquet.

“Love what you are doing. You are doing it for a reason and it not for anyone else but you,” she said.

Moleschi helped Canada win the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio in women’s rugby sevens.

The 26-year-old has been playing rugby since she was in Grade 9 in Williams Lake but never imagined she would one day represent her country on the biggest stage.

“I am not the biggest player, but I am full of heart and girt and not afraid to get tenacious,” she said.

With 34 career World Rugby Women’s Sevens tries, she ranks fourth in that category in Canadian history.

“The accomplishments that I have are because I have had people supporting me and believing in me and ultimately, that puts that belief in me,” she said.

“I only hope that I can inspire and help (others) get that confidence in themselves and that self-belief and just show them that anything is possible.”
