Thespians seeking a stage on which to perform have a few options.
Both Langley Players and the Gallery 7 Theatre in Abbotsford have auditions coming up this month for their January shows.
Langley Players is preparing to show Norm Foster’s Old Love mid-January through mid-February, and is looking for three men and three women between the ages of 30 and 60.
Auditions for this production are being held Sunday and Monday, Oct. 23 and 24, starting at 7 p.m. at the Langley Playhouse, 4307 200th St. Those interested in reading are asked to contact the director ahead at lwcoulter@shaw.ca.
Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 25, with a public read-through of the play Oct. 29, and rehearsals starting Nov. 2.
The play will be directed by Barb Coulter, and run Jan. 17 to Feb. 18, with a possible hold-over to Feb. 25.
In this bittersweet comedy, Bud first met Molly at the company Christmas party 25 years ago. Then, she was married to the boss, Arthur, who has just passed away. Bud decides to go to the funeral to pay his respects, but mostly to see Molly, a woman for whom he’s been holding a candle all these years. What ensues is a comedic take on two failed marriages and the pursuit of a rekindled romance that is both inspiring and enchanting.

Gallery 7 also tends to garner a lot of Langley actors, and director Ken Hildebrandt expects nothing less this time around.
He’s auditioning for the group’s production of the Canadian comedy-drama called Halo.
Auditions are being held Tuesday, Oct. 25, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Gallery 7 rehearsal hall, #100-34595 3rd Ave., in Abbotsford.
The auditions are open to all community performers ages 16 to 70, said Hildebrandt.
“Halo is a comical, yet tender story of love, faith and relationships,” he said.
When the image of Jesus Christ appears on the wall of a Tim Horton’s restaurant in Natley, Nova Scotia, the town is thrown in to euphoric chaos. Is this appearance a miracle? A hoax?
“The play asks important questions about commercialism, sensationalism and cynicism while exploring the grittier side of faith in tough, very personal circumstances. The show is wildly fun and contains plenty of humour, but it also challenges audiences to think.”
This production will be on stage Jan. 27 to Feb. 4, with evening and matinee performances. Rehearsals start in late November.
“I am pleased to be presenting such a fine example of Canadian drama in our season this year, especially as we celebrate our nation’s 150th birthday,” Hildebrandt concluded.
“A lot of the play takes place in a Tim Hortons – you can’t get more Canadian than that!”
