What do they do when they're a band of brothers that want make a difference?
They do what they do best – make music.
That is exactly what the Langley band, Her Brothers, is doing in support of the families of Fort McMurray, Alta.
After seeing images of homes lost, families fleeing, and highways ablaze lined with cars, these young guys stood up and said "How can we help?” explained the band's front man Gabe Penner.
With support from Envision Financial, local MLA Peter Fassbender, and MP Mark Warawa, these winners of the Langley Has Talent contest are planning a show at the Chief Sepass Theatre in Fort Langley on Saturday, May 21.
With the help of the "generous people of Langley" as well as support and silent auction items from local businesses, the band hopes to raise $15,000, Gabe announced.
Then, with the federal government vowing to match all donation, dollar-for-dollar, “this means potentially $30K towards the relief effort, and that would be significant," he added.
Her Brothers is a high-energy group of musicians that announced plans for the benefit concert during a guest appearance at the Rotary Club's SASSY Awards on Friday night at the Chief Sepass Theatre.
The band is made up of brothers, Gabe, Josh, Levi and Dad Jonathan Penner.
Inspired by their little sister, and a first-hand experience with human trafficking, Her Brothers make music with a positive message.
Their music is a mix of current popular covers and catchy original tunes.
Back in October, they spoke at We Day and most recently they have just returned from a tour of Alberta schools where they shared with students and faculty a message of respect. On tour, they encouraged young men to consider the ways they view and treat women and inspired young women to consider their own self-worth.
Tickets for the benefit concert are $30 each (with 100% of all proceeds going to Fort McMurray) and are available at Wendel’s Bookstore in Fort Langley, online at www.fortmcmurraybenefit.brownpapertickets.co, or at the Chief Sepass Theatre box office.
There will also be a silent auction at the event, with show is set to start at 7 p.m.
