A senior women’s international volleyball championship comes to Langley next month.
It was announced Wednesday afternoon that the Langley Events Centre will once again be hosting the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (NORCECA) Qualifiers Sept. 28 to 30.
Canada, Cuba, Nicaragua, and St. Luci will play in six games over the course of the three-day tournament.
The top two finishing teams will receive a berth in the world championships taking place in Japan in 2018, explained Derek Cooke, general manager of Ten Feet Sports and Entertainment.
“We are excited to be hosting Volleyball Canada and the Norceca Volleyball Confederation at Langley Events Centre next month,” he said.
“By all accounts the last Norceca event held here was one of the most exciting in the history of the facility, and we are looking forward to a repeat performance by some of the best women’s volleyball teams in the world.”

In 2012, Brazil defeated Argentina to win the U23 tournament. The success in 2012 led to LEC hosting the 2013 Men’s Norceca Contintental Championship, which Cooke said was capped off by Canada-U.S.A. final in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,000 volleyball enthusiasts who witnessed the U.S. victory.
Tickets to the tournament go on sale Tuesday, Sept. 5, and are available for individual days or as full-event passes.
